New York to get Casino ” The Monticello”

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

In a major hypocritical move, less than 50 days into his tenure as governor, Eliot Spitzer put pen to paper, formally issuing his concurrence to the Secretarial “two-part” determination originally issued by the Department of the Interior in April, 2000. Governor Spitzer also signed an amendment to the tribe’s existing gaming compact which specifically grants the necessary approval for the Sullivan County casino.

The is the Same Eliot Spitzer that vowed to prosecute any individual caught gambling online in the state of New York when he was the state attorney. This is just further proof that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act was passed to knock out foreign competition and allow US based brick and mortar casinos to set up their own online gaming sites. And that politicians will change their view when its in the best interest of their state.

Also under the agreement between Spitzer and the Mohawks, the state will get 20 percent of the revenues from video slot machines for the first two years of the casino’s operation, 23 percent for the next two years and 25 percent a year thereafter. Cha Ching.

The casino is projected to cost $600 million to build. It would be built next to the Monticello Raceway and carry the Monticello name. It is seen as a competitor to Atlantic City and Connecticut for gamblers in the New York City area.

Group bets on Harrah’s

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

LAS VEGAS — Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., the world’s largest casino company, has agreed to a $16.7 billion offer from two private equity groups, two people with knowledge of the negotiations said.

The agreement with Apollo Management Group and Texas Pacific Group came late last week but lawyers for both sides have been working out the details, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks.

An official announcement on the deal could come as early as Tuesday, these people said Monday. A third person close to the matter, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said a final agreement was ‘’very close.'’

Spokesmen for Harrah’s, Apollo and Texas Pacific declined to comment.

The deal values Harrah’s at $90 per share and represents a 36 percent premium over Harrah’s share price on Sept. 29, the last trading day before Apollo and Texas Pacific first proposed a buyout Oct. 2. The group also will assume $10.7 billion in debt.
